Preparing for employability is about enabling individuals to gain the skills and experience they need to gain, maintain and make progress in employment. Promoting themselves in a way that attracts the attention of selectors and recruiters, as well as managing the applications process, requires the individual to develop a range of self-presentation and marketing skills.
Preparing a CV or taking part in an interview are essential career management skills that we use throughout our lives.
Every student will at some stage face the daunting task of preparing for an interview, whether that’s for a part time job, college application or an apprenticeship. By volunteering at this event you can help them to identify their strengths, learn about transferrable skills and gain confidence in speaking to new people.
At this event you could be asked to
- lead a workshop on interview skills or preparing a CV
- conduct mock interviews
- critique CVs.
Not only will you be sharing your expertise but you will also give students an authentic experience of interacting with professionals in a comfortable setting.
This session will support schools in working towards achieving Gatsby Benchmark 3: Addressing the needs of each student. Students are encouraged to identify the relevant experience and skills they have developed and how best to communicate these to prospective employers.
If this is your first event with us, please create a profile on our portal, it should only take a couple of minutes to sign up - https://www.formthefuture.org.uk/register/ (Info video how to sign up).
